Kay Harris

Kay Diane Harris, aka Mom or Gammie Kay, was a loving Wife, Mother, Mother-in-Law, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, Cousin and Friend.   She left this earth on October 18, 2024, at age 79. Kay was born to Lester Glenn Francis and Lillian Lorene Francis (Calvert) on February 10, 1945 in Amarillo, Texas.  She met her husband, Freddie Leon Harris, and had 3 children: Brandon, Bronson, and Dylan.  Freddie was the love of her life, and together they built the family that she so adored.

Kay grew to love sports as she watched her 3 sons play baseball and football, among other sporting activities.  She rarely missed a game, as she was a very dedicated mother.  She carried that love of sport and activities on to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sacrificing much time watching these events.  She was a wonderful cook and caregiver and loved nothing more than her family gathered spending time.  Her most cherished moments were those spent with her family.  Although distance and life often made it difficult to gather, she was at her best and having her best time when all were in one room.  Where she loved her sons, she may have loved her grandchildren even more.  She raised Desirae from birth and always made her feel more like a daughter.  She was the provider that always put others first.  The ultimate in sacrifice.   Family was her love!  She loved First Baptist Church of Verden and her church family where she made lifelong friends.  She loved singing in the choir and the memories made.  She often spoke of the relationships she had developed within the church and the love she had for so many.

Kay was preceded in death by her father Lester, mother Lorene, husband Freddie Leon Harris, sister Patricia Louise Hawkins and husband Kenneth Ray of Chickasha, brother Calvert A. Francis of Lawton, sister-in-law and husband Janet and Bill Bradley of Farmington, New Mexico, and granddaughter Danika Louise Harris.

She is survived by her sons Brandon Wayne Harris; John Bronson Harris, wife Amy, son Jace, and daughter Lexi; Dylan Tate Harris, wife Donitta, and daughters Devynn and Delaney; granddaughter Desirae Eaves, husband Tyler, son Nate, and daughters La Launi and Savannah; nieces Kim Kennell and Deborah and Scott Brush; great-nephews and nieces Chris Kennell, Matthew and Jennifer Kennell, Cody Frahm, Maci Carnes, and several great-great-nephews and nieces.  Close cousin Larry and Rebecca Breeding.  In-laws include Ray and Janet Harris and children, Leta and Dan Holt and children, Tommy and Rita Harris and children, Jerry and Mandy Harris and children, and Tina and Jim Davis and children.

She knew God was her reason for everything, and loved people the way God did.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am, November 9, 2024 at Verden First Baptist Church.
Cremation arrangements are with McRay Funeral Home.
