Zarah Lou Virgin was born the daughter of Houston Frances “Red” Virgin and Mary Ellen Wilson Virgin on January 13, 1932 in Henrietta, OK. She was called to her heavenly home on November 10, 2019.
After spending her childhood in Okmulgee and Wagner, OK she came with her family to Chickasha in 1948. She graduated from Chickasha High School in 1951 and then attended Oklahoma College for Women, transferring to Oklahoma State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Library Science. Zarah then attended the University of Oklahoma and received a Master of Science Degree in Library Science. After teaching for two years in Fairfax, OK she moved to California where she worked as a teacher and librarian in the high schools of Modesto and Reding. In the mid-seventies Zarah returned to Oklahoma and was the head librarian for Paul’s Valley High School for two years before making her permanent home in Chickasha. For many years Zarah served her community as a member of several community organizations including the Women’s Service and Family Resource Center. A devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church, she served as an elder and Sunday School teacher. Zarah has always had a deep love for reading and was always reading either a good mystery or historical fiction. Another favorite pastime was watching old classical movies. But by far, her favorite hobby was traveling. Her travels took her to many places around the globe and she spoke fondly of, among many places, Turkey, Israel, Rome, China, New Zealand, Germany and Russia. Zarah’s love for life, her generosity, her spiritual strength, and her sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her.
