Betty Sue Kennedy Beam

Funeral service for Betty Sue Kennedy Beam, age 80, will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at the Amber First Baptist Church.

Betty was born the daughter of Ted and Margaret (Ferrell) Kennedy on August 20, 1939, in Amber, Oklahoma. She died on November 16, 2019, in Lexington, OK.

Betty grew up in Amber and graduated from Amber High School. After graduation, she began working for the Federal Aviation Administration in Oklahoma, retiring after 28 years of service. During this time, she and her family lived in the Oklahoma City metro area. After retiring, Betty worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart in Mustang, OK. Betty loved to bowl and travel. She also loved the Oklahoma Sooners. But, she especially loved her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Verl and Wesley Kennedy, and son Tim Reeves.

She is survived by her daughter and husband, Jeanice and Monty Ervin; granddaughters Macie and Lyndie Ervin; sister and husband Peggy and Charles Milburn; brother and wife Jerry and Vickie Kennedy; sister-in-law Sharan Kennedy; brother Lonnie Kennedy; numerous nieces and nephews.

Interment will be in the Amber Cemetery. Services are under the direction of McRay Funeral Home.


Zarah Lou Virgin

Funeral service for Zarah Lou Virgin, 87, of Chickasha, OK will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church in Chickasha.  Dr. J. Pat Kennedy and her great-nephew, Pastor J.B. Bryant, will officiate.

Zarah Lou Virgin was born the daughter of Houston Frances “Red” Virgin and Mary Ellen Wilson Virgin on January 13, 1932 in Henrietta, OK.  She was called to her heavenly home on November 10, 2019.  

After spending her childhood in Okmulgee and Wagner, OK she came with her family to Chickasha in 1948.  She graduated from Chickasha High School in 1951 and then attended Oklahoma College for Women, transferring to Oklahoma State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Library Science.  Zarah then attended the University of Oklahoma and received a Master of Science Degree in Library Science.  After teaching for two years in Fairfax, OK she moved to California where she worked as a teacher and librarian in the high schools of Modesto and Reding.  In the mid-seventies Zarah returned to Oklahoma and was the head librarian for Paul’s Valley High School for two years before making her permanent home in Chickasha.  For many years Zarah served her community as a member of several community organizations including the Women’s Service and Family Resource Center.  A devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church, she served as an elder and Sunday School teacher.  Zarah has always had a deep love for reading and was always reading either a good mystery or historical fiction.  Another favorite pastime was watching old classical movies.  But by far, her favorite hobby was traveling.  Her travels took her to many places around the globe and she spoke fondly of, among many places, Turkey, Israel, Rome, China, New Zealand, Germany and Russia.  Zarah’s love for life, her generosity, her spiritual strength, and her sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her.

Zarah was preceded in death by her parents Houston Frances “Red” Virgin and Mary Ellen Virgin.

Zarah is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Ann and Charles Dungan; niece and husband Zarah Renee and Rick Pearce; niece and husband Cristi and Thomas Boliver; several great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great nieces and nephews.
