James Robert Ketchum

Memorial service for James Robert Ketchum, age 77, will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at the Southern Oaks Church of Christ.


James Robert Ketchum of Chickasha, OK passed away on May 17, 2019. He was born in Purdy, OK on July 14, 1941 to Clyde and Bonnie (Burns) Ketchum.  James spent his early years in Alex with his four brothers: Henry, Tommy, Wayne and Paul and his two sisters:  Aline and Clydene.  James graduated from Alex High School in 1960 where he was on the state runner-up football team.  He worked in auto parts until his retirement when he started helping out at Can-Ok. 


James married the “love of his life”, Alice Glenn on April 12, 1962 and they were blessed with 57 years of marriage.  Together they raised three sons: Jimmy, Timmy and Gary.  


James instilled the love of sports to all of his boys as their little league coach and then their biggest fan when they played Jr High and Sr High sports. He never missed a game. James also had the boys participating in raising and showing hogs. They showed both locally and at the National Western Stock show in Denver. Their love for the competition carried over to their children where James loved to help and encourage his grandchildren. In their spare time, James enjoyed spending the weekends camping at the lake with his family and friends.  All the boys were talented skiers including Alice. He also taught numerous other friends and family members how to ski.


James was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Bonnie Ketchum, his grandmother Myrtle Burns; in-laws Frank and Opal Glenn; two brothers Tommy and Wayne Ketchum; sister Clydene Williamson. 


He is survived by his wife, Alice Ketchum, sons Jimmy and Jana Ketchum, Timmy and Lisa Ketchum, Gary and Lisa Ketchum. Twelve grandkids: Corey and Ashley Livingston, Zackary Morris, Melanie Morris, Jacie Ketchum, Kristen Parrish, Ryan Parrish, Katie Cobble, Dylan and Evan Ketchum, Kelby and Abby Ketchum, Randi and Mike Decker, Levi and Laney Spears and Cole Ketchum. Great grandkids: Hayden, Bryden, Parker, Beckham, Maddox, Heidi, Brooklyn, Ryleigh and Whitleigh: sister Aline and Kenneth Jump, brother Henry and Pat Ketchum, brother Paul and Alice Ketchum, sister-in-law Shirley Ketchum: numerous nieces, nephews and other family.


Cremation and services are under the direction of McRay Funeral Home.



 

Shirley Maxine Hartline

Shirley Maxine (Singleterry) Hartline, 54, died peacefully in her sleep on May 9, 2019 at her home in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She was born in Rush Springs, Oklahoma to Don and Linda Singleterry on June 9, 1964.


Shirley loved being a stay-at-home mom and taking care of her family. She was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. Her love for cooking and baking was passed on to her children. She was an avid collector of all things “Bears, Boxes, and Butterflies.”


She spent a good part of her life involved in customer service where she was able to serve others on a daily basis. She was an avid volunteer in the community and loved to be involved in the activities of her children doing everything from working in school offices to coaching sports teams.


She was preceded is death by her mother, Linda. She is survived by five generations: her grandmother, Ireline Taylor, of Chickasha; her parents, Don and Pat Singleterry, of Marlow; her sister, Barbie Gomez and husband Bruce, of Blanchard; her son, Christopher Hartline and wife, Dixie, of Chickasha; and daughter, Jessica Hartline of Navarre, Florida as well granddaughters Ceyra and Alexis Hartline of Chickasha.


There will be a memorial service held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 10 a.m. at the Southern Oaks Church of Christ in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Services will be directed by McRay Funeral Home.



 

John Reford Gage

Graveside service for John Reford Gage, 101, of Alex, OK will be on  May 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Alex Cemetery.  Rev. Ezell Nelson will officiate.

John Reford Gage was born the son of John Henry Gage and Mary Alice Henley Gage on March 23, 1918 in Alex, OK.  He died on May 12, 2019 at his home.

Reford grew up in the Alex area and married his wife Ernesteen in El Reno in 1941.  During WWII he served in the Army in the Aleutian Islands.  After the war, he returned home to Alex were he worked for Mobile Oil while also farming and ranching.  After 20 years with Mobile, he farmed and ranched full time.  Reford was on the board of directors for Rural Electric Coop for many years.

Reford was preceded in death by his wife Ernesteen Gage and his brother Leon Gage.

Reford is survived by his children Janette and Johnnie Rogers of Alex, Paula and Fred Stafford of Duncan, Gary and Darla Gage of Alex; grandchildren Jill and Brian Stidham, Jan Rogers, Gretchen and Joe Miller, Brooke and Shane Evans, Kim and Kip Irving, and Lori Holt; and great-grandchildren Mason, Cason, Natalie, Mary, Emma, Griffin, Lily, Maddy and Gage.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Alex Community Senior Citizens Center, P.O. Box 243, Alex, OK 73002 or to the Alex Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 425 Alex, OK 73002.

Viewing will be Wednesday through Friday May 15-17, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. 

Interment is in the Alex Cemetery.  Arrangements are with McRay Funeral Home.
