When she was in her early teens, on July 10, 1974, she moved with her family to Bagley, MN and returned to Asher, OK two years later. She worked at Macs and Cement Gas & Go. Carolyn marched to her own drum. She was always up for having fun, not caring what others thought. She would throw her hands in the air and shout, “Woohoo!” while doing a little dance as she came toward you. She was never afraid to touch anything–no matter how gross it was. She loved to spend time with family and she loved her little dogs. Carolyn was a daughter, sister, mother, cousin, aunt and so much more. She was a colorful part of all of our lives. In 1977 she continued her education by earning a Masters Degree from the University of Oklahoma. She retired in 1992, after 25 years of teaching.
Anyone who knew Shirley knew she loved football. Not just any football, University of Oklahoma and Dallas Cowboys. She shared her love of football with her children and grandchildren. Many hours were spent as a family in lively discussion and animated enjoyment of games. Shirley had many other interests. She spent hours outdoors gardening and watching the birds in her back yard. She had a love for reading, and in her later years especially enjoyed the writings of C.S. Lewis.
Shirley was a follower of Jesus Christ. She was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church, Chickasha where she taught Sunday school for many years. Shirley never stopped learning. She read her Bible faithfully, studying the Scriptures to know and apply more and more to her life. Her faith and her burden for others to know Christ caused her to be very generous to organizations who minister to the needy while spreading the gospel.
